A Different Race to Run

I know from personal experience that, we as Christians, can get to comfortable with the routine of going to church every Sunday.  We even
volunteer and go to Bible studies and we checked all the boxes that make us a "Good Christian".
The issue is we need to go all the way in.  One day I was facing a problem and I wondered why God wasn't there with me.  It felt like I was far away and his presence was not near or with me.  I realized that I was not walking the way I was supposed to.
There is a command we often overlook and that is when Jesus says "pick up your cross daily.." (Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23)  What is more serious, in Luke 14:27 Jesus said "And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple".   That warning should make us think more seriously about our walk with the Lord if you claim to be a follower of Jesus.
We must be all the way in as in being absolutely fully committed.  God wants us to be hot and, not cold, or "lukewarm".  In the letter to the church in Laodicea, the apostle John writes
"So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. "  The full meaning of this is for another lesson but this is a serious point I want to be sure is made.
Below are some verses that have to do with our walk not being about taking our time and being too comfortable in our commitment as Christians.  We have to run and try very hard to be the best for our Lord Jesus our Savior and King.  There are a lot of verses that have to do with running a race or that imply trying as to gain a victory by doing our best for our Lord.  If you reach out to me I can provide more scriptures regarding
this.
Acts 20:24 - But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
1 Corinthians 9:24 - Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.
Hebrews 12:1- Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,...
